I’m a resent transplant to Los Angeles and I’ve been doing a bit of exploring like the Long Beach Flea Market and going for Karaoke in Culver City.  But I have found that you need to have someone point you to the amazing spots.  That is what I’m asking you to help me with.   What are your favourite places to hit when you come into LA?  Shopping?  Food?  Markets?  Music?  Best place to get a Hot Dog?  I want to know these places and have fun doing it.  Whatcha think?  Can you help me feel like a local?

If you have seen the news from yesterday you will know that there was an earthquake around noon.  It was 5.6 on the Richter scale and out here in the Valley it made the sofa feel like I was sitting on jello.  Well I guess that puts me a little closer to being a local, hun?

Internet Picture of the Month…It’s all about Gender Equality

Here there I was doing some googling (and yes that is a term of the 21 century) and found this picture. Now since I told everyone that I would be blogging about worldly matters I felt obligated to post this…

We now have proof that carrots are gendered…thats right.. they may not be able to fornicate but they do have the parts…

Now you can go on for the rest of your day happy to know that the world is evolving as God himself intended it to!

Can you hear the drums Fernando?

With a drink in hand I sat down to watch the most anticipated movie of the summer.  No it was not the Dark Night.  That one is being saved for a weekend when I can actually get a ticket.  Nope I saw Mama Mia!  I really hope that you did too.  Cuz then we can compare notes.

What was your favourite part?  Mine???  hmmm there are so many but if I really had to choose then it would have to be the one for Dancing Queen.  When every woman starts to dance down the hill and ends up doing the huge musical number on the dock.  Or may be it was the Super Trooper ode to ABBA where Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, and Christine Baranski are wearing those fabulous thigh high platform boots. But there was also that tearful good bye….  Aw… man.  let’s just say that it was fabulous!

Now if for some reason you didn’t happen to see Mama Mia this past weekend… well all right.  But that means that you should gather all of your girl friends, leave the boys at home and head on out to the movies.  This is one that should really be enjoyed with the company of good friends that love to have fun and be entertained because that is certainly what you’ll be in for.

My My How Did I ever Let you Go?

Love Lynda.

I have spent waaay too much time fooling around on this site:

http://morph.cs.st-andrews.ac.uk/Transformer/

it’s really simple

you can choose what gender, race and age you are. after you upload your picture, you have a plethora of choices to alter your  image including; changing your race, cartoon, baby, and artist render.

Beware! Some are uber-disturbing.

( ‘drunk’ mode for example )

So I got the call today from the Georgia Straight online newspaper saying that I am going to be a voluntary guest writer for the their online newspaper with over a 1M hits a month.. FANTASTIC.. I’ll be writing a column on young urban women in Vancouver called “Trash or Truth”, how exciting! After the call ended I went online to read from the plethra of articles and found this:

http://www.straight.com/article-152943/i-being-watched?

My thought: WTF..Really?

My next thought: Hmmmmmmm… is there a term for such a fetish?… And how much money would he make if he started a webcam from his home! Are their girls really into this? Ok, so that’s three indulgent questions..

I’ll let you do the honours of checkin out the article and see for yourself!

so, i love shoes as much as the next person. but, i also love deals steals and sales in conjunction with shoes.

i think the shopping high for me, is as much about the steal as it is about the heel.

i was doing the interwebbery shuffle and came across the Chinese Laundry website.

ya ya we’ve all heard of this brand, but i couldn’t believe the dandy prices – AND they ship to Canadiana…so, hey now!

**tru.th** i stumbled onto the site because someone said i looked like ‘Serena from Gossip Girl’. ( i have no tv, so i have no clue who that is…but i did some googling and… ….found a pic of her…..fabulous boots!)

as well, on my search to find my supposed identical doppelganger, i found another website/blog-ish entity called Geek Sugar that is a bit youngish and hot pink, but really cool and geeky, too! (geek.is.chic)

and last but not least – when i think of shoes – i think of this video.

**tru.th** you will never say “shoes” again without thinking.about.this.song!

Vancouver’s Newest Find.. Fresh is Best

I GOT SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT… And its not Elvis’s Sideburns but just as good!

So having a love for new finds in Vancouver and having a thing for chips, yes, those things we find in the stores all over the world that are made from corn or potatoes and often dips in different sauces like salsa, french onion dip, spinach and artechoke spread, seven layer dip, and oh so much more, I am excited to tell you all about Fresh is Best.

Fresh is Best is a Kamloops based business that has come to Vancouver and changed the lovely city of Kits. Although its been around for a little while it’s just breaking ground on West Broadway.

After a day of wandering the city with a friend from Toronto we met up with her Adam Behr, an incredible voice over expert based in Vancouver, BC. We decided to get crazy and have a Mexican themes evening with Mexican beers (Corona, Sol, and Modelo) and an improvision of Mexican food. Adam took us on an adventure for food, beers, and the likes in his neighborhood and we our first stop was Fresh in Best. Man was I in heaven.

Fresh is Best has an array of salsa, hot sauces, amazing tortillas, and more. Being a bit of a chip and dip connoisseur I was like a kid in a candy store! Now I have to tell you that I love to cook, making up new recipes as I go,  and get a kick out of mixing and matching new finds so this store has now made the PaSSioN-Girl list of favs.

All their fresh items are sugar and gluten free and delicious. Their chips have jalepeno or chilli in them with a slight twist of lime!

After 30 minutes in the store I am excited to say that these are among my favourites:

First and foremost the hot sauce of choice is the Moletn Mango.. its like a party in your mouth… SERIOUSLY! If you like a hot sauce that is just sweet enough to smile, just hot enough to kick your eyebrow up a bit, and pleasant enough to put on the bbq or your favourite tortilla this is the hot sauce for you!

As for dips I have to say that the Garlic and Spinach Dip is to DIE for! Using fresh sour cream, a LOAD of garlic it leaves you saying OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! that’s goooooooooooood! More peas!

The next on my favourites list is the Smoked Black Bean Dip the best part of this is that you can get it alone or in the layered dip. It’s got a nice subtle smokey taste and a not so harsh beany zest. Yes thats right folks, I said beany!

So if you are looking to hit a party in the Kits neighbourhood, or happen to pass through stop by Fresh is Best I promise you won’t be disappointed. Ask Maxine for some help on finding a salsa or dip that you like, she might even give ya a little taste or two!

Location 2972 West Broadway, Vancouver, Bc (604) 737-2442
