What is passion?

Through the events of my day I came to a thought about the term I’ve using for years “purpose and passion”.

I’ve always said that I am a passionate person who believes in following a good hearted purpose in life, after all without purpose we are mirely zombies walking around humming and hawing over unimportant events.

So my thoughts lead me to this belief:

Passion is an energy that stems from a belief that something is important. Right? When we are passionate about something we then have a purpose to carry out. Whether we are passionate about fashion, political matters, nature, photography or well… cheese (and yes I know someone who had a deep passion for cheese who often refers himself as a cheese expert- go figure!) we tend to take that passionate energy and do something about it. If we are into fashion we read magazines, find the latest trends, and go shopping often; mixing and matching making some unique statement about who we are. If we are passionate about political matters we follow parliament, legislation, whos in power around the world and are on top of every election pushing friends and family to vote because its a privilege and right we have as North Americans.

So if passion is just an energy that we create that gives us purpose to live why dont more people have passion and live life to the fullest? Perhaps they are zombies without heart or mind or perhaps they are just so overwhelmed that they cant see themselves clearly. Whatever the reason I’ve learnt that if you take the time to find something you are passionate about- something that betters who you are, or better yet create that energy in your life that makes you wana wake up in the morning and do something with purpose this world would be a better place.

Today I challenged myself to create more passion in my life and my look on my life changed.

The crazy lady who does portraits on water street in gastown who was yelling obscenities at me today for asking directions while she was pursuading a window shopper to get a portrait didnt bother me.. I knew she was passionate about something and it just obviously wasn’t me…

Where do you find your passion and how does it better your world?
